It appears that Andrew J. Stockton, who on 10 March 1848 married Rosannah Martin, was the son of Daniel 5 and Rebecca (nee Smith) Stockton. The 1830 Cumberland County, Kentucky census records show that Daniel 5 and Rebecca Stockton, who were living in Stockton’s Valley, had four sons born before the 1830 census. In 1836 Cumberland County was split and Stockton’s Valley was now in the newly created Clinton County. These four sons are shown on the 1840 Clinton County census records, two are 10-15 and two are 15-20. Three of these four sons can be found in the 1850 Clinton County census records. Hiram 6 Stockton and Lemuel 6 Stockton were both married by 1850 with families of their own. James 6 Stockton, age 22, was living with his widowed mother, Rebecca Stockton, and her younger children. One son of Daniel 5 and Rebecca (nee Smith) Stockton was not living in Clinton County in 1850. Andrew J. 6 Stockton was living in Pettis County, Missouri, in 1850. 1850 Pettis County, Missouri, Andrew J. Stocton, 24, born in Kentucky. 1860 Atchison County, Kansas, Andrew J. Stockton, 34, born in Kentucky. 1870 Andrew J. Stockton not found. 1880 Jasper County, Missouri, Andrew Stocton, 57, born in Kentucky. 1900 Jasper County, Missouri, Andrew Stockton, 77, born in Kentucky. Daniel 5 Stockton was a son of “Smith Creek” John 4 and Margaret “Peggy” Stockton. Daniel 5 Stockton married a neighbor, Rebecca Smith, on 12 June 1820, and he appears to have died on 15 Sept 1838. In 1856 the heirs of Daniel 5 Stockton signed a deed to Mary Ann Craig. This deed was destroyed during the Civil War. However, it was later recreated and signed by five of the surviving heirs. Andrew J. Stockton was one of the surviving heirs of Daniel 5 Stockton who signed this recreated deed. The other surviving heirs of Daniel 5 Stockton who signed this deed were Hiram Stockton, Lemuel L. Stockton, Margaret (nee Stockton) Braswell and Nancy (nee Stockton) Dowell. Andrew J. Stockton named a son Daniel after his father, and a daughter Rebecca after his mother. He named his first son Hiram after his oldest brother Hiram Carl Stockton, and named a son James Carroll after his brothers, James Stockton and Carrol Stockton.
