It is true that Elias C., Elijah W., Richard and Susan Stockton do fit nicely into the 1830 Sevier County, Tennessee, census report for Patience Stockton, but in the 1840 census, when they all would still be unmarried teenagers, at least three of them were not shown living at home with Patience Stockdon. Susan would still be unmarried in 1840, and only about 16 years old. While she might be working for and living with another family in 1840, she was not shown living with Patience Stockdon in 1840. In December of 1843 Susan Stockton married James Kyle in Itawamba County, Mississippi, which is about 250 miles from Sevier County, Tennessee. A year earlier Elias C Stockton had married Amanda Bell in Itawamba County, Mississippi.
While it is possible that the four unmarried teenagers moved from Sevier County, Tennessee to Itawamba County, Mississippi, together, it’s also possible that they were related to one of the several other Stockton families that are known to have been living in Itawamba County at that time.
