Hi Eleanor, Thank you so much for replying to my message. I'm definately not an expert on this DNA research but as I understand?? Y-DNA links (son to father) and mtDNA links (daughter to mother or son to mother). Now, according to our research, My husband's maternal line of descent would be:
Gwen Hanniff (canada)
Anna Mae Scott (Missouri)
Visa May (Missouri)
Nancy Stockstill (Missouri)
and either Mary Hedgpath or Sarah Davis.
The only way I could think of to see if we could claim Sarah was to see if my husband's mtDNA matched with a documented Sarah Davis descendant. Now, if you find out that this mtDNA is not reliable please tell me. We had it done though "Family Tree DNA". Ironically my cousin had hers done and got 1,900 matches (as of yesterday) my husband only had 244 matches. I have been writing to them one by one. Up until now the only confirmation I had was the death certificate for Nancy (Stockstill) May. That however is based on her children's best information. Once again hearsay.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you again
Ken and Pam Coones
