MERCER -- Lewis J. Stockford, 90, of Mercer passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at his home in Mercer.
The son of Robert F. and Etta (Lloyd) Stockford, Lewis was born on June 28, 1913, in Norridgewock. Lewis was educated through the Mercer schools and was a lifelong resident of Mercer.
Lewis worked in construction as a truck driver and on the family farm most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Lewis also liked going to auctions. Lewis was a kind and gentle man, loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by one sister, Dot McLaughlin of North Anson, and several nieces and nephews. Lewis was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Margaret Brann, Montana Jones and Josephine Toth; and two brothers, Robert Stockford and Keith Stockford.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.
