Watch out for Elizabeth Stockbridge!

There are many misconceptions about the mother of Elizabeth Stockbridge, Christened in Boston Mass. 10 July 1642. Her father was John Stockbridge who had 3 wives. There is an article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register that gives wrong information but it is corrected in a later volume. Many people have not looked beyond the first article. Please note this:

Stockbridge-Hatch: Correction. -- In the Register, Vol 70 pg 260 (July 1916), Elizabeth Stockbridge is recorded as the first child of John Stockbridge of Scituate in the Plymouth Colony by his second wife, Elizabeth (Hatch) Soan, and is said (on the authority of Deanes' History of Scituate, page 342) to have been born in 1644. John Stockbridge and the Widow Soan were married at Scituate, 9 Oct 1643. An examination of Boston Births, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths, 1630-1699, p. 14 clearly shows that Elizabeth Stockbridge was the daughter of John by his first wife, Anne _____, and was baptized in the First Church, Boston, 10 July 1642, "aged 2 yrs. 6 mos." She married at Scituate, 1 Jan 1661/2, Thomas Hyland. There were but two children born to John Stockbridge by his second wife,, viz., Sarah and Hester, whose baptisms are recorded in Scituate.
3 Concord Ave, Cambridge, Mass. Lawrence Brainerd.

I hope this will help clear the misconceptions about Elizabeth that proliferate. The Ancestral File on Familysearch.com is incorrect. Some of the IGI entries are wrong also. Please note this important correction.
