St-Louis from Grosse Roche Matane

Hello,

I was told recently that there was over 30-40 St-Louis family that arrived in Quebec from France. My question is... How does one find out what the original full name was of the ancestor who started "my" St-Louis family. All St-Louis names were "dit St-Louis" which means an other name preceeded the dit.... How do we find out? My grand father's grand father's name was Godefroie (Godefroy) St-Louis and he married Marie (Marie-Ann) Roy in Grosse Roche co of Matane. One of his sons was named Albert -who is my great grand-father- and he married Albina Otis in Causapsical co of Matapedia in 1919. My grand father is one of the sons born of this marriage: Charles August St-Louis. Can anyone help?

Thanks :-)
Nadine St-Louis
