Gold Star List -Wisconsin World War I - Marines:
St. Louis, Roland Geny, 24, Oconto; sgt; Toulon, Aisne defensive, Chateau Thierry, Aisne-Marne offensive (Soissons); killed in action Jy 19, '18. Croix de Guerre, silver star; citation AEF; Fourragere.
He was from Oconto, WI. He enlisted in 1915 and was with the 49th Co, 5th Regt. U.S.Marines, 2nd Div.
His citation reads, "On July 19, 1918 at Vierzy, he displayed absolute courage and zeal. Was killed while voluntarily guiding the 1st BN., to a more sheltered position"

Roland St Louis lies in the Oise-Aisne Cemetery in France among six thousand and twelve Americans that were killed in the area during World War I.

His mother, Rose Ann Therien, daughter of Joseph and Josephte Therien, was my grandmotherís sister.

I hope to find obituaries of Roland St. Louis and local newspaper accounts of that battle. The Oconto papers, as far as I can determine, are missing much of the World War I years. It is the same in Iron Mountain, MI, where my grandmother lived, and where an obituary might also be found. Is there someone that has preserved them and would share copies?

I am also looking for obituaries of his parents. His mother, Rose Therien St. Louis, died 11 June 1899.
