The spelling is Fuenterrabia, which in dialect means the "French One". It was the setting for several battles set up by English nobilty to be had between the French and the Spanish. I stick to my belief that this is where they has set up homes (castles or villas perhaps) and quite possibly were lord protectorates.

It is now called Hondarribia which in Basque means "sand ford".
