Stirrup Family, N Ireland.

I am currently researching a branch of the Stirrup family which moved to Northern
Ireland some time before 1879. In December 1879 James Stirrup (born about 1817), a
railway worker, married Catherine Irvine in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh (NI).
Catherine was Jamesís second wife, his first wife Jane (born about 1829) died earlier
that year.

To date Janeís death in 1879 is the first record of the Stirrupís in Ireland, so it is not
known when the family arrived in Enniskillen. Although James may have been the
first to settle here, but it is also likely that it was Jamesís father who first came to
Enniskillen. Jamesís father, also called James, was a solider, and at the time
Enniskillen was a major military town with a large barrack. James (sen) may have
been stationed there and, either brought his family with him, or came as a single man
and married in Enniskillen.

Most of James and Catherineís family have been traced however some are still un
accounted for.
Eliza Mary Stirrup married Thomas Murray in Enniskillen in March 1903 and moved
to Dublin. In November1916 her sister, Anne Jane Stirrup married George Owen.
James also had at least one daughter to his first wife Jane, she was Margaret Stirrup and
married Egbert Midlane in April 1881.

Any information on this branch of the family will be appreciated. George McIntyre.
