Actually managed to get more complicated overnight.
That couple had another daughter named Hannah C. Eldora may or may not be their actual daughter.
In 24 June 1852 Eliza Stillman sailed on the Ellen Nancy from Parrsboro, Nova Scotia (her hometown) to Boston. She traveled with James Stillman who was a 24-year old male farmer. She was 18 and her occupation is entirely illegible. Both intended to stay in the United States.
Based on dates and locations, James married 3 times in Mass.
1st wife:
James E. Stillman married Fidelia F. Witherill on April 29, 1854. He was 24, a truckdriver, and from Nova Scotia while she was 18 and from Marshfield. His father was Andrew Stillman and her father was Charley Witherill. It was their first marriages.
They had 1 daughter, Ella J. Stillman was born March 28, 1855 in Plymouth.
Can't find a death record for Fidelia but...
2nd wife:
James E. Stillman married Mary S. Donley on May 1855. He’s listed as a Truckman living in Pymouth from Parrsboro, N.S. His parents were Andrew and Charlotte Stillman. It was both James and Mary’s second marriages.
In the 1855 Massachusetts state census Charles and Mary lived together along with George F. (7) and John Donly (6).
IN 1856 James and Mary had a son Charles who died 9 months later. In 1858 they had a daughter Mary J. who died later that year at 7 months.
Mary seems to have died between 1858 and 1860.
In 1860 James a boarderwith the Thomas & Hannah Mayhew family in Plymouth. Hannah, the wife, was from Nova Scotia. Thomas was a truckman and James was a laborer.
James fought in the Civil War. He enlisted on 18 May 1861 as a private. He fought in the Company E, 29th Infantry Regiment starting on 22 May 1861. He mustered out on 31 May 1864. He was a brakeman.
After the war ended James married his third wife, Joanna Hall in Boston on 11 January 1865. Oddly it was listed as his second marriage but maybe he discounted the first one since it was so brief. His age is also wrong but his parents are correct, Andrew & Charlotte.
In 1870 James E. (41) lived with wife Joanna F. (32) and daughter Mary L. (4) as well as Henry Selling (20) and John H. Donnolly (19). All three men were railroad brakemen. Henry was from England and John from Mass.
In 1880 James E. (51) lived with his spouse Joanna F. Stillman (42) and daughter Mary (14) and was a laborer.
Daughter Mary S. Stillman married Lawrence Hall in Chelsea, MA on April 10, . He was a 24-year old plasterer from Nova Scotia and she was 20. His parents were Harris & Bethia or Bertha Hall.
James Stillman died 29 December 1902 in Plymouth, MA. He died of pneumonia at age 73-78. He was from Nova Scotia. James was living in Chelsea, died at a Soldiers Home, and was buried in Plymouth.
His death record totally confuses things. It puts his parents as John & Charlotte Henman. They were always previously Andrew & Charotte.
Sarah Eliza’s parents were James & Hattie on her marriage record but since she only married once I don't have multiple places for her parents to be named unlike James.
Anything familiar??? I'm wondering if Sarah Eliza's parents were actually the same as James' parents...
