Ben L. Stiles History of Research
After the DNA testing, specifically of William Stiles, it is know as a fact that this family is of the Massachusetts family line.
This family is also rather closely or very closely related to Leon Noble Stiles (0) Steps from it, to be exact.
After studying the Stiles Family of America Book for both Stiles family lines, I have concluded that it is possible that this family is inaccurately (NOW figured NOT to be an issue most likely) listed as a Connecticut Stiles line.
This is as Avery Winthrop Stiles is still the best shot as circumstantial father to "my" earliest ancestor, Benjamin L. Stiles. All other lines in the Mass family have not shown any link to Benjamin Stiles except that of Avery, son of Elias (listed as Eli) Stiles A Rev. War Patriot according to SFA.
Note: Eli Stiles, son of Avery Winthrop Stiles, is not in the MA Stiles line but as his father was, a Conn. Stiles. (Diane)
Another possibility is (WAS) that of Homer Stiles son of Abial who lived in Canada West,(Cornwall, Stormount?) Canada and was in turn the son of Elijah Stiles who hada married a woman named Dorothy. This Stiles line is known to be a Massachusetts one.
This would make it that either the father of Benjamin L. Stiles born in 1804 in New York was possibly the son of Homer Stiles who was the son of Abial, as stated and Abial was a son of Elijah -- all Massachusetts line names. Benjamin Stiles, could have had in turn a brother named Homer born in 1816 as well as a father by that name.
There also were a couple of typos in the SFA Connecticut book with the listing of Avery Stiles date of birth and one the name as not Eli and not Elias as Avery's father was in anofficial record of his birth.
That is the point that I am at now. I think we have more than closed in on this line, with the DNA match. At least we absolutely know what family this is, not Connecticut as first thought but Massachusetts.
THERE IS A LONG SHOT POSSIBILITY THAT BENJAMIN L. STILES WAS A WRONG SIDE DESCENDANT OF EITHER ABIAL OR HIS SON HOMER STILES. THERE IS NO RECORD OF EITHER MAN HAVING A SON BY THE NAME OF BENJAMIN. THEY BOTH HAD CHILDREN THAT HAVE BEEN LISTED.
