LDS Family Pages as Benjamin Stiles Source?
Could it be that Aunt Martha got the information of the children of Benjamin L.Stiles complete names from the LDS files and not from some vital record or census? The 1850 Federal Census which lists Benjamin wife and kids doesn't have that much about the middle names for instance. Certainly "Andrew Moore and His Descendants..." by Horrace Moore doesn't list the children with complete names. We know that on page 124 of that book Wilfred isn't even listed but "Delos" Styles.
Looks to me like the complete names could well be from the databases from family records but not vital records.
Meanwhile my mother, (who happens to be a retired librarian and has been a very big help with my genealogy), a few years agofound family photos here in an old cardboard box.
Since the Lonergan family appears to have owned a photo studio in Chicago on 4134 & 4136 South Halsted Street, it is probably true that these several photos that we have in our family collection, (including the one I mentioned before of Frank Stiles) were from the photo studios of M. B. Lonergan.
Lonergan is of course the last name of the second wife of my Great Grandfather, Elmer Alonzo Stiles.
I even have a photo that might easily be Benjamin Stiles. I estimate this was taken about 1880. I also have photos that I believe to be Wilfred I Stiles & Clara Potter Stiles. Also we have what appears to be Elmer Stiles and Arthur Stiles. According to the 1900 FC, Elmer and Arthur Stiles were both cops in the Chicago area at least for a short time. In the photos they are in police uniforms.
We also have at least one good photo that I acquired from Donna Stokes Henry. One of those also looks like it could be from the Lonergan studio. This is of Frank, Agnes Donna Watson and Clara Potter Stiles (according to Frances Mccoll whom I had contacted by email about identifying the Stiles in Donna Henry's photo).
Also I had acquired data from Leon Stiles about the database of Dr. Bill Stiles, previous historian for the SFA.
The first info about Benjamin appears to have been a match with the Moore family. This uses the file itself (Missing Link 109) and not the book by Andrew Moore as a source.
This suggests that for whatever reason, Aunt Martha at this point did not provide sources. This could be because she relied on LDS family pages and not "VRs" (vital records).
