James Stigler, 1808 Franklin Co., GA
James Stigler
I have some information on James Stigler that I am going to share. I found this information while researching my ancestor, Archibald Willingham b. 10 Dec 1786 GA. If a Stigler descendant can answer some of my questions I would be most grateful.
Does someone know a connection between the Stigler family and the Willingham family?
Is James Stigler of 1808 Franklin Co., GA associated with the Rackley family?
Does someone recognize any of the names in the following deeds; names of witnesses are included.
Later records show that “Mills Rackleyof Henry Dist., Franklin Co., GA” had drawn a “tract of land containing Two Hundred Two & an half acres situated lying & being in the County of Baldwin but being divided it is now called Randolph” in the 1807 GA land lottery.
On 21 June 1808 Mills Rackley of Franklin Co., GA sold this 202 1/2 acres to James Stigler of Franklin Co., GA. This sale was witnessed by Charles Sisson and John Collins, J.P. “Signed” Mills Rackley (P, his mark). The sale was recorded 5 Oct 1808. [Copy of deed.]
I have not found the record where James Stigler sold this 202 1/2 acres. Does someone have a record of James Stigler selling this land?
By 15 June 1822 this same 202 1/2 acres is identified as “lot 121 in the plan of the 16th district of originally Baldwin, now Jasper County, (GA)” NOTE: Name Randolph Co. was changed to Jasper Co.The land by 15 June 1822 belongs to Archibald Willingham of Jasper Co., GA who sold it in parts on 15 June 1822 to Reuben C. Shorter of Jasper Co. (witnesses: Kicnason Pennington, Anthony Burnett, Noah Callaway), GA, 15 Oct 1822 to William Goolsby of Jasper Co., GA (Witnesses: Bartley M. Tucker, John Moody), and 2 Dec 1822 to William R. Russell of Jasper Co., GA (witnesses: Leonard Worthy, James Brooke, Joel Moody). [Copies of deeds.]
Prior to 1820 and as early as 1805 (perhaps earlier), Archibald Willingham lived in Dist. #11 on Green Brier Creek in Columbia Co., GA. Prior to 1784 the Willingham family lived in Lunenburg/ Henry/ Pittsylvania Co., VA and Granville Co., NC and in SC.
Even the smallest bit of information would be helpful to me to determine the parents of Archibald Willingham. [email protected]
