There were Stichlers in Lancaster and Berks Counties, Pennsylvania in the later 1700s. My line moved to Richland Co., Ohio before moving on to Sullivan Co., Missouri (where they changed the spelling to Stickler). Another branch moved to Stark Co., Ohio. It should be useful to check the 1880 or 1900 census, which should list the state of birth of the parents of your ancestor John Benjamin Stichler.
