I am one of a group working on an official history of the Wisconsin 23rd Regiment .We have James H. Steward on our roster. (This is a different research project and a different James than the one I wrote you before)
He enlisted 12 Aug 1862 at Madison, Dane Co., WI & was discharged 7 Aug 1863.He d.29 Dec 1866 at the home of his uncle (name not given) after a long illness & is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, WI.
This is all the information we have.If you can help us fill in any of our blanks we would be grateful.
