Hi Julia, this is a long shot, but I have just found out that an ancestor of mine may have been named "JoAnn" Stewart b abt 1819/20 MS.Her father was Hiram Stewart b 1795/99 SC/GA.
I am searching for Hiram's parentage, they are thought to have been from Chester Co SC prior to coming to GA and MS and possibly AL late 1700s.In resarching, I have a feeling they may have been from Ann Arundel and/or Baltimore Cos MD originally due to their associations in the extreme southern states.
The 1790 Chester Co SC Census lists a Hugh, James and Jas Stuart, I am presently researching these fellas.
Coincidental also, your last name of Clark, Hiram's mother, Mary nee Stewart? (b abt 1779 possibly Chester Co SC), also married William Griffin 1801 GA, then a Mr Clark in MS or AL approx 1810-1815.She had other children by both these men.
I have no idea if a connection, just passing along.I have more data re Hiram's descendents, and mostly speculation on his mother, Mary, and his unknown father if you are interested.
Thanks, Lynda Stewart Misner
