Hi Sara,
I have a write-up called: "Notes In Connection With The Family Of Colonel George Stewart Who Served In The War Of The Revolution", compiled by N. R. Criss (a descendant of John Stewart), Pittsburgh, PA in 1957.It has some information that may be useful to you.
James Stewart was my 3rd G Grandfather, a son of Col. George Stewart & Susannah Wilson.According to the "Notes", when John died in 1815, "he was a resident of Cecil Township, Washington County, which abuts on the south side of Robinson's Run near the present town of McDonald".His wife, Elizabeth McCarty, who remarried after his death to William McCluskey, "is reputed to be buried in the Racoon Cemetery at Condor Pennsylvania".
It is likely that John "went on horseback from Robinson's run to Ohio in the neighborhood of New Lisbon or Yellowcreek to buy land, that he was stricken with typhoid fever and died in Ohio. This was during the winter season and the body could not be brought back home for burial. The exact place of his burial is not known".
"From public records in Washington County in connection with the settlement of the Estate of John Stewart, it is apparent that he died in Columbiana County, Ohio about the last of January, 1815, and that his body was taken in charge by James Stewart, his half-brother, who at one time and probably at that time was a resident of Columbiana County".
Other details of the death are in the "Notes".If you want the complete 13 pages, just let me know how to send them.I'll be glad to scan and e-mail them, fax, or mail them.
I hope this has been some help.
