Yes, Nancy was with him from 1821 thru 1883, she died the same year as her husband. They are both buried in Linden, Cass Co. Texas. They had 3 daughters (Jane Holt Stewart m. Walter Abney Patrick, Mary Eliza Stewart m. James M. Moore and Sarah (Sally)m. ? Patterson and 4 sons (2 unknown names, William T. Stewart m. Susan Catherine Harwood, Rufus M. Stewart m. (1) Martha S. Powell (2) Nancy Jane Humphrey)
We have found no leads on John A. (b 1798) his siblings or parents. All we know is that John was in Tenn in 1821 and then in Mississippi in 1837 - possibly 1850. He shows up in Cass county in 1860 but was listed as being the first mayor of Linden, TX in 1854. He later became a Justice in Cass county. We have been unable to locate him in any of the 1850 census which may indicate that they were in route from MS to Texas at the time. Son William T and wife Susan show up in the Dallas Co. census in 1850. I haven't found anything yet that would indicate that they were ever in Ala. but due to the fact that I haven't found any record of them between 1847 and 1860 there is always that possibility.
In a family letter written in 1873 John A. mentions that his father died during "the war", no reference as to which war. His mother lived to be almost 100 yr. old (born 1772 died in 1872, 3 months shy of her 100th birthday) We have no name for his mother or father so our search has been very limited.
