Archibald Stewart b.c. 1787
I'm trying to find information on Archibald Stewart b c. 1787 in North Carolina. He married Ledda---. She was born
c. 1800 in North Carolina according to 1850 Census of Laurens County Census , Georgia.
Also there was a Dougal and James Stewart, brothers, that were in Laurens County from about 1830 on.They descended
from John Stewart son of Samuel and Lydia Harrison Stewart.
I have a copy of information from Biographical Souvenir of the States of Georgia and Florida, that tells of a Rev. J. L. Stewart.Says The Stewarts from whom came the family to which the subject of this sketch belongs, were of Scotch extraction and were said to be descended from the House of Stuarts. The story of their wanderings from the parent country as handed down from father to son is as follows:Archibald Stewart, a dissenter from the established church and a stanch Presbyterian, emigrated from Scotland into North Ireland during the religious troubles of the last century and settled in the county of Londonderry. He was married twice and had three sons by each marriage:by the first, John, Samuel and Joseph ; by the second, William, Archibald and Alexander. The eldest of these boys, John, emigrated to America and settled in Lancaster, Pa, his remaining brothers moved also to Lancaster, but moved to York, South Carolina, At this date the youngest of these sons was fifteen years old.On reaching maturity he married Elizabeth Barron, a Pennsylvania lady of German extraction.About three more pages.Talks some about the Stewarts, Barrons, Striplins and Olivers.
Does anyone have information on this Archibald Stewart and his lines.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
