Jesse Martin Stewart supposedly came from Glasgow Scotland at the age of 12 to Illinois ? probably about 1850 to 1865. Can find no documentation at all on him. He married Hannah Snodgrass who was born in Bledsoe County TN in 1848. Their children were John A. Stewart b.1871 in Indiana, William Bell Stewart b.1873 in Kentucky, a female child (name unknown) b.1880 in Mississippi County MO and my grandfather, Marion Franklin Stewart b.February 20,1882 in Mississippi County MO. Jesse Martin Stewart must have died young because Hannah remarried. The family story goes that William Bell Stewart killed his abusive step-father in self-defense. I don't know what happened to Hannah because my grandfather was sent to an orphan home for boys in St. Louis. The other children, John A. and the sister, may have gone to live with family members in Indiana or maybe Illinois. I hope someone can help me find some information on this family.
