Hello John
Sorry to have been so long in replying to your message, but have been to-ing and fro-ing between Brussels and Edinburgh in Scotland and am only now catching up with myself.
If there is a link between your family and ours, it may go back to an earlier generation. Our Hugh Stevenson was born in Ramelton, Co Donegal, in 1815 and married Elizabeth Stirling in Londonderry in 1843.They were Presbyterians. In the City Cemetery records in Londonderry, Hugh's parents are given as Hugh and Mary StevensonThis earlier Hugh must have been born in the 1700s.Relatives in New Zealand think that the mother's surname may have been Brown. It is possible also that it could have been McGuinness.
One interesting newspaper cutting from the Belfast Newsletter of Friday, 28 September 1810, under Marriages is
"Last week, near Letterkenny (in Co Donegal) Mr Hugh Stevenson, to his fourth wife;his three daughters were married the same week."I wonder if he was one of your ancestors or one of mine!Unfortunately they don't give the name of the fourth wife or of the three daughters.
I have just been to a genealogy show in London, which included a very interesting workshop on internet sources for Irish genealogy.Haven't had time to try them out yet. These sites are always adding information, so maybe we'll be able to pick up something further there.
Best of luck with your research.
Deirdre
