"Bennett Tyner died Friday night July 14th at his home 2 1/2 miles east of Bightwater."
"The following obituary was written by Geo. Williams: Uncle Bennett Tyner was born in Washington Co., Ark., near Cane Hill, Jan. 9, 1826.His father moved to Arkansas river and when Bennett was five years old settled on Little Sugar Creek, 2 1/2 miles east of Brightwater. On this farm Uncle Bennett was raised and lived continuously for 80 years. He was probably the oldest real Arkansan in the state."

[185_(after Mar 3, 1853?) Josiah Isaiah Stephens & family moved to Clifty PO, Cedar Creek Twp, Madison Co AR - Did he sell or buy property in either co?].
[Quite a number of families listed in 1860 FC of Clifty PO were listed in Sugar Crk Twp of Benton Co in 1850, or in Barry Co, MO in 1850.There was also a Tilford family that had been listed in Cedar Crk Twp in 1850, but parents were md in Barry Co.Among the families from Sugar Crk 1850 were the Ash family, including Erwin/Irvin Ash who later moved to Stone Co, MO, and md Martha Stephens, dau of Phillip Stephens, brother of Josiah Isaiah Stephens. In my next follow-up post, I will share what I found recently, in Stone Co, that increased my confidence that Josiah Isaiah Stephens was also a brother to my 3rd Great Grandmother Mary Ellen (Stephens) Swagerty].

[Not only was Bennett Tyner/Tiner, no doubt, the oldest real Arkansan, but also his mother's birthplace was given as AR in 1880 & 1910, and as MO in 1900.If she was 40-50, the eldest female listed with T. Tyner in 1840, then she was born 1790 - 1800 AR/MO.That would be very unusual even in Washington Co, AR].

It is apparent to me that Bennett was a son of Thomas Tyner, Sr.The obituary for Bennett states clearly that his father moved in 1831 from Cane Hill, Washington Co, AR, where Bennett was born five years earlier, to the same place where Bennett died, 80 years later, in 1911.In 1829, when Bennett was 3, the only Tyner in the tax list of Cane Hill was Thos Sr. Cane Hill was in Washington Co, AR in 1829, where both Thos Sr & Thos Jr were listed on the same page in 1830.
Thos Tyner Sr "settled on Little Sugar Creek" in 1831, when Bennett was 5, "2 1/2 miles East of Brightwater", which was also in Washington Co, AR, until 1837, when Benton Co, AR was formed. That same place was in Sugar Creek Twp, Benton Co, AR by 1840.It remained within the boundaries of Sugar Crk Twp until Brightwater Twp was formed, by 1880.When Bennett died in 1911, his survivors included his sons Albert & John Tilford, both of Garfield, who were listed as living with him & next to him in 1910..
I'm just a little curious why the post office for that homestead, changed from Pea Ridge to Bentonville from 1860 to 1870.Was Pea Ridge PO closed, or did the PO boundaries change?
If you made a list of all of the heads of household that were listed in the 1830 FC of Washington Co, AR, and who were, or their children were, also listed in Sugar Creek Twp. Benton Co, AR in the FC's of 1840, 1850 & 1860, you would find only two such families. Thos Tyner Sr and/or his son Bennett Tyner, and David Stevens, and/or his widow Nancy (Tyner) Stephens & ch.
What are the odds that members of these two families were either listed with or next to one another, as in 1850 & 1860, or on the same page, with only a few heads of households listed in between, as in 1840.1840 FC of Sugar Crk Twp, Benton Co, AR page 11: P[leasant] O Swaggerty [& wife Mary Ellen (Stephens) Swaggerty], skip 4 hds of hhlds, T[hos] Tyner [Sr], skip 7 hds of hhlds, Nancy (Tyner) Stephens.
It did not surprise me all that much to find Thomas Tynor in 1800 Moore Co, NC, next to the Stephens families. These two families were always closely connected across quite a number of states. For those who are interested in DNA, you may want to google for "Thomas Tyner" "Moore Co, NC".
Please post anything that you have or find about these two families that might add to what we already know about these connections.
