Hi Lissa,
I am guessing that the chart you are referring to is the Stephens-Stevens DNA study, run by Bill Bailey.it has been a while since I looked at it, so I will make a return visit today.
19/25 means that the MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor) between your Stevens and my Stevens lines, lived a very long time ago.
I would guess that, if we looked at the first 37 markers of your line, and the full 37 or my line, the distance might either be about the same, or perhaps the number of matching markers might be fewer when using a greater number of markers to match up.
Have you --or your proxy--decided to buy a SNP test, to further define the Stevens DNA?(No additional samples needed, they just take your oder and test the original sample.)
The locations in the colonies are less important.People traveled across the ocean, and wound up making their way to different places.Sometimes, on purpose; sometimes, unintentionally.Where they originated 'across the pond' is of greater importance and interest.though, out of curiosity, where in New England were your Stevens line located?
And, although I am notNew York native, I have lived much of my adult life there. (I now live in DC.)
Nicholas
