Does anyone know the ancestry of the John Stevens of Windsor, CT, who married and divorced an Abigail (---)?
Note: there are two Stevens families in Windsor: that of Thomas and John. Neither has left much of a record in Windsor.
"Thomas Stevens m. 13th Oct. 1681 Mary, dau. of Thomas Mighill. He had a wife Sarah, who d. 1695 leaving a dau. Sarah. He was probably from Newberry. His name disappears soon after. He was land measurer in 1685. Constable 1692. Mentioned in 1702" - Documentary History of Suffield [CT]
A John Stevens appears as grantor on 4 occasions,3 in 1720 and 1 in 1734 [Windsor] The Barber records at State Library
show neither birth nor death records for John in Windsor, although Abigail and Silvanus have birth records there. Abigail's marriage to John Wilson appears to have been in Harwinton. Whether John may have been a son of Thomas is unknown. The first move would be to check out the ancestry of Silvanus in the books mentioned above. I am not in a position to do that.
