My ancestor Thomas Stevens was first documented in Stamford, CT (1641).Much of our later family has solid roots in North and South Carolina. There is no evidence to prove or disprove that Thomas landed in New England.Somehow researchers came up with a birth date of 1620 for Thomas, but they give no evidence. It just seems to be copied from person to person.
One biographer states that Thomas may have come to Virginia, not faired well, and returned to England to only come back a few years later.Or, he may have been the the child, Thomas Stevens, who was sent from England to Virginia Feb.19, 1619. (Robert Hume, Early Child Immigrants to Virginia)If this is our Thomas, then the birth date is definitely wrong, and may have been a landing date. The listing says he was a vagrant, child, and does not give an age.If this child is our ancestor, why would he travel from Virginia to Connecticut?
There is evidence that he died in 1658.
Our haplogroup is E3b. If anyone can help shed some light on my Thomas Stevens, I would love to hear from you.
