Adam Stevens bn abt 1756 at Peekskill
Our client descends from Thomas Harris Stevens similar to Anne Dunlop who has posted previous messages on this forum. We would like to share our information with this forum in hopes of learning more. This is what we have obtained so far:
Thomas Harris Stevens, born 11 Jan 1807 in Vermont, son of Allen Stevens and Sarah Chase; Thomas died 22 Sep 1877 at Dereham, Elgin, Ontario, Canada and is buried at the Mount Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Ontario, Canada. Cemetery records reveal that Thomas Harris Stevens' death certificate lists that he was 70 years, 8 months, and 10 days old when he died, from which his birth date is calculated.
Thomas Harris Stevens married Sophia Hough on 6 Jan 1830 at Scarborough, York, Ontario, Canada. Sophia Hough was born 21 Sep 1811 at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Isaac Hough from Scarborough.
Thomas Harris Stevens' father, Allen Stevens, was born about 1782 in the U.S. Allen was listed in the household of his son Thomas according to the 1871 Canadian Census, East Nissouri Twp., Oxford Co., Ontario, which lists him as a widower who was born in the U.S. According to the East Nissouri Township cemetery records, Allen Stevens died on 20 Apr 1873 at Oxford, Ontario, Canada according to a cemetery record supplied by "The Genealogical Library" research firm in Canada. He is buried at the Kintore Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Oxford, Ontario, Canada. Allen Stevens was ninety-one years of age when he died and his wife was buried elsewhere. Allen's age, 91, at the time of his death in 1873 indicates that he was born in 1782, somewhere in the U.S.
In addition to a son named Thomas Harris Stevens, Allen Stevens also had a son named Weston Stevens who was born about 1816/7 in the U.S. Weston is enumerated in the 1871 Canadian Census of South Norwich Twp., Oxford County, Ontario, Dist.13, Div.1, p.20. Weston Stevens died before 15 Mar 1859 when he is listed in land records of , South Norwich, Oxford, Ontario, Canada according to the abstract index of Lot 22, Concession 11. Our client is interested in learning more about other children of Allen Stevens.
Name and residence patterns of Ontario indicate that Allen Stevens was a son of Adam Stevens who was granted 230 acres in Whitby Township, Ontario County, Ontario, Canada on 9 Jun 1804. However, he forefieted this land when he fled to the U.S. during the War of 1812.
According to the previous postings on Adam Stevens, Anne Dunlop lists she believes that Allen was the son of Adam Stevens who married Polly Crossman and lived in Wilson, New York. Anne Dunlop and Francis Ward list the following for children of Adam Stevens and Polly Crossman:
Children of Adam Stevens and Polly Crossman:

The specific dates of birth indicate that this information possibly came from a family Bible. However, no sources of information are listed and Allen is not listed among these children. There is also no source listed for the marriage of Adam Stevens to Polly Crossman.
Subject to further research, another possibility is that Allen Stevens was the son of Adam Stevens who was born ab out 1756 at Peekskill in Westchester County, New York.
