William of Old Lyme (d: 1719) Cemetery location
There were some messages left about two years discussing the burial location of William Sterling of Haverhill and Lyme. From the Sterling Genealogy, the description of the location is vague. However, I found the cemetery this summer, so I thought I would let everyone know how to get there.
It is now called the "Lord Cemetery" and there is a small sign that indicates this.It is about a mile south of the center of the little town of Hamburg, which is north of Old Lyme and the 95 freeway, along Route 156.
If you are traveling north on the 156 it will be on a little hill on your right. There is a modern-looking house on the left with a very small sign that indicates it was once the "Bill Hill Schoolhouse."You will want to park around there and carefully walk across the street.
The cemetery is in fairly poor condition and there are not many headstones standing.I saw very few with the Sterling name on it, but if you take a copy of page 263 from the Sterling Genealogy, it should help you immensely.Good luck!
