Sterling/Troutman/Jordan

Sarah Temperance Sterling married Henry A. Troutman abt 1895. On the 1900 Sandy, Clearfield, PA census Henry is listed as head with wife, Sarah T., daughter Hanna A. and two stepsons, Paul B. and Clyde W. Sterling (listed as Sturling). Sarah was in her parents home (Benjamin Franklin Sterling and Rachel Jordan Sterling) in 1880 and with Henry Troutman in 1900. Clyde Sterling was born in 1882 and Paul B. Sterling was born in 1887, so there isn't a census record for these boys listed before 1900. The father of these boys is not known. Curiously, the boys have the mother's maiden name. We are thinking a cousin. Although birth out of wedlock is not impossible, it is highly unlikely, especially twice 5 years apart. So, does anyone have any clue as to whom the father of these boys are?
