I am researching the Stephenson family of Riceville, McMinn County, Tennessee. My Grandfather was Samuel Boyd Stephenson, 1901-1967, his father was William E Stephenson, 1862-1935, and his father was also William E Stephenson, 1825-1904. Both Williams are buried at the old Upper Spring Creek Cemetery, in McMinn County. Other researchers point to Andrew Stephenson as the father of William the senior and others point to either unknown or various other people. There seems to be confusion between a William H and these two William Es and Andrew. My family is from Riceville and is also connected to the Davis and Stephenson families in Polk County, TN. My Grandfather always told me he was Scott Irish and he left the farm as a young man and moved down to Chattanooga because he did not like the farm life. I do recall a brief story about the Stephenson families of Riceville; that they are all related but there was some sort of falling out between them years ago and they split up. I am not sure of what this issue was but maybe it was during the 1860s. If anyone can share information on this family I would very much appreciate any help. Thanks.

Ken Waller
