Hi, thanks for information. We have funds to pay for the test just cannot get them to agree to it. We will keep at it. I don't think Edith's kids would have been in any settlement. They seemed to have been raised as either Slaughter's or Robinsons and it seems to have been a hush hush deal.It appears that after their step-father passed on (before 1880) that Edith must have told them their father was a Stephens. They moved to Wayne and no one in the family ever knew the name of the father. No one even knew Edith was a Bryant, and certainly not the daughter of Morgan Bryant and Sally Watson. An old letter of my grandfather's from 1915 mentioned that he had visited her in Ky. so I eventually reached the Stephens descendants. instead of Slaughters or Robinsons. You can imagine how difficult it was to put it together. Edith Bryant's family from Tennessee, most probably the border of Wayne and Whitley that seemed to go back and forth. She was born 1826/8 and didn't died until 1923. Looks as though she was the first child of Morgan Bryants and born Tennessee (as per our letter) and the others born Whitley. She and her siblings grew up in Marsh Creek. In 1850, she is in Whitley Co census with husband Jeremiah Slaughter.Nancy born 1853/4 so Mr. Stephens must have lived nearby. There is a family with a "Whit" Stevens in D.1, 1850, Whitley and he is married to a Nancy.A Jane Watson is in his household and she is 60.Jane may be the mother to Nancy. Have you any knowleadge of this family with Jane Watson?Edith's mother is Sarah Watson Bryant. In an old box of photographs in the household of Edith's descendants there is a photo of a young boy Ralph Stephens, nicknamed "Buster."We found he was born 1913 to John D. Stephens and Mollie Moore.John D. is son of a Thomas C. Stephens.I can only find a Thos Stephens in Scott TN in 1850 and father is a John Stephens b. TN 1779. I have no idea if Whit and Nancy in whitley are related to this John father of Thomas father of John D father of Ralph Stephens, or if this older John is related to Edith's man.Just thinking that Edith in Marsh Creek so her Stephens probably there too.Would like to figure out how Ralph Stephens related. Thanks so much for answering.I'm sure the Bryant's and the Stephens of Marsh Creek must have connected [email protected] if you want to contact me directly.Jackie
