Since my post I have learned that his full name was John Robert Stephens. I believe my John Stephens actually died before 1900, so I don't know if it's possible that your grandfather could be him. But, I could be wrong. I don't have a month or day for his birth, unfortunately. If I ever do find that information, I'll be sure to post it here.
