You haven't given parents names for Ezra so I am guessing as to which Ezra you are talking about.
I have a book Stephens-Milks Ancestry by Grace Sweek.
In this book she shows an Ezra Stephens, son of Joshua Stephens and Christina Dutcher.
This Ezra was born about 1783 PA died 1851. He married Cynthia Stephens, daughter of Col. John Stephens (a 2nd cousin) She does not mention John's wife's name.
She says Ezra waas age 66 in 1850 census so I decided to look up that census.I found an Ezra Stephens age 65 (not 66 as she says) in Canisteo, Steuben, NY .
I am copying the entry for you as there is an Alexander Putnam living in same household so I think it quite likely this is your Ezra.

I then looked for your Hiram Putnam in 1850.

So it looks like you were right - his wife was Lucinda - at least as far as the census. As far as Plowden Steven's book I think it is entirely possible he may have made an error or two and this may very well be one of them.
There is always the possibility that her full name may have included Cynthia such as Cynthia Lucinda Stephens or Lucinda Cynthia Stephens but records seems to show her as Lucinda and I think the only way you could prove it beyond a doubt would be to find either her birth record or perhaps Ezra's will to see how she is listed.
Please let me know if you think the Ezra from Grace Sweeks book is yours as he is the brother of an ancestor of mine - Leander Stephens.
