Ron,
I found a marriage James Stephens and Martha Horn married 1833 Jones, GA but then also found a James Stephens in 1850 mortality census for Jones, GA. He was age 35 so I looked for Martha in 1850 census and found a Martha -no husband - but with one child and a woman last name Horn so I have eliminated this couple.
I have not been able to find any other marriages for a James Stephens and a Martha. I also tried Mary as I have found many times Martha can also be called Mary. So far nothing to give you.
As James' and Martha's son William in shown as born
1840 AL I looked for the family in 1840 census there. I only found one that fits.
BARBOUR COUNTY, AL
STEPHENS
James
Males
under age of 5 (1) age 5-10 (1) age 20-30 (1)
Females
under age of 5 (1) age 20-30 (1)
Male under age of 5 would be William, male age 5-10 would be Thomas male 20-30 would be James
Female under age of 5 would be Queen female 20-30 would be Martha
This fits with the ages from the 1850 census.

I also looked in GA 1840 census but none of the James Stephens listed had right ages for father or children so it looked likely that the Alabama would be the right family.
I looked for other Stephens families in Barbour, AL. There is only one listed. S.A. Stephens, right age to be a brother to James. I wonder if S. stands for Samuel. ??
----------------------------------------
When I look at 1850 census for Barbour AL there is a James Stephens there - right age but children are not right ages ( none over age 9)so it is still possible the 1840 James is yours.

With the 1840 census only giving the name of the head of the family it is much harder to be sure of having the right people.
I'm sorry I couldn't find more for you but I seem to have gotten stuck at this point.
