Shay,
I believe I may have found your family and the parents of Virgie although it is a little confusing with name changes etc.
1900 Vaugine, Jefferson AR
PHILLIPS
Nathan age 30 born March 1870 born TN unclear where parents born, painter married 10 years
Virgie age 30 born Nov. 1869 born AR both parents born MS
married 10 years, 4 children born 4 living
James age 7 born Nov. 1892 born TX
Homer age 5 born Sept. 1894 born TX
Lulann age 4 born Feb. 1896 born TX
Ennis age 1 born Dec. 1898 born TX
all the children show father born TN mother born AR
----------------------------
So, the place of birth for James is different than the 1910 census which shows AR
Also places of birth for Virgie's parents is different as 1910 shows AR for both. I generally go with the earlier years as I feel they are more likely to remember when they are younger, but then again it depends on who actually gave the info. In one census it may have been Virgie and in another it may have been Nathan or even one of the children and they may not have known the correct info.
So I then looked for a possible Stephens family in the area with names you had given for her siblings and found:
1900 Pine Bluff (P.O. Vaugine) Jefferson AR
STEPHENS
Victoria age 50 widow born Aug. 1849 born AR father born AL mother born LA 13 children born 9 living, runs boarding house
Mary daughter age 16 born Oct. 1882 AR
Maggie daughter age 14 born Sept. 1885 AR
Homer son age 11 born April 1889 AR
Jack son age 8 born May 1892 TX
I thought Homer was close in name to Omar and as Jack was born in TX 1892 and Virgie was in TX 1892 as well (as the families may have travelled together)I thought this family worth checking on so I looked for earlier census records.
I found them in 1880 and 1870 and while it is a bit confusing I do think this is your Virgie's family....due to the Stephens/ and Haynes names.
1880 EL DORADO, UNION, AR
STEPHENS
James age 48, carpenter born GA no parents birth places shown
Victoria age 30, born AR father born GA mother born LA
Richard, son age 13 born AR
Thomas M. son age 12 born AR
Effa, daughter age 10 born AR
June, daughter age 9 born AR
Jessie, son age 5 born AR
Charley R. son age 3 born AR
BA(rest unclear, may say baby) daughter age 6/12 born AR
all the children show father born GA mother born AR
in same household
HAYNES
Eugenia, daughter age 14 born AR
Payton son age 11 born AR
Virginia daughter age 10 born AR
all these children show father born GA mother born AR
also in same household
SMITH
Charles - brother-in-law age 26 lawyer born AR father born GA mother born LA
1870 Jackson (P.O. El Dorada) Union, AR
HAYNES
James age 39 miller born KY
Victoria age 23 born AR
Virginia age 5 born AR
Peyton age 3 born AR
Eugenia age 9/12 born AR
This looks like they had the girls mixed up as in 1880 Eugenia is the older one which would have made Virginia 9/12 in 1870 which fits with your Virgie.
-----------------------------------
The odd thing though is that Virginia is shown as Haynes in these records and you have her as a Stephens, although I suppose she could have taken on that name as she grew older??? Do you have her birth record? It does explain why I could not find her under the name Stephens though.
I know you gave Virgie's brothers as Paden and Omar but the spelling could have been wrong as that is not uncommon and it certainly looks like this family fits....also the C.R. which I suppose could be the Charley R.
Familysearch.org shows as marriage for Victoria Smith to J.H. Haynes, Sept. 21, 1864 Union, AR - marriage records Book B page 301. This marriage is also shown at ancestry.com
There is another entry showing a marriage between Victoria Smith and James Monroe Stevens - El Dorada, Union, AR about 1887 which we know is wrong from the census records.
I did not find a marriage for them on ancestry.com
I could not find James Stevens/Stephens in 1870 census. There is a marriage record at ancestry.com of a James M. Stevens and Louisa Clewly married Jan. 11, 1860 Union Co. AR so she may have been mother of older Stephens children.
I hope this helps you a bit.
Carolyn
