Its been quite some time since this subject post was active, but maybe someone will stumble across it like I did, and have more to add.
My Gr Gr Grandfather was Smith Stephens (b~1869), believed to be the youngest son of Garrett (b ~1801-1805) and Julia A. Stephens(b ~1826-1828) (1880 US census Precinct 5, Palo Pinto, Tx). Smith Stephens was the only one of their children to be born in TX. The other children are listed as born in ARK. Garrett also had a 1st wife, with whom he had several children. Most of these children were out of the house and/or married by the time the last of his children (from his second wife Julia A. (Julia Ann Trammel)) were born. It appears that many of the children from his 1st wife parted ways in Benton Co, Ark prior to his second family moving to TX.
This same Garrett and Julia are also listed in the 1870 US census in Denton, Co Tx with their children.
Is this the Garrett Stephens you are/were interested in? I would love to hear the information you have if it is the same Stephens line.
