Pat,
I've just posted a lengthy follow-up to your post in Genfroum-Regional - US States - Alabama - Jackson Co. # 567, so I'll have to make this one much more brief, I hope.
I am also quite interested in the connection of Adkins/Young families to Bynum/Stephens/ & Riddle fams.I realize that these fams all settled in same area in JKAL, but I am also finding too many coincidences to various patterns of migrations of these same families.I mentioned in Jackson Co, AL follow-up that I was primarily interested in Adkins. That's because the parents of Wm C Young (father of Mary F who md AJ Adkins) were John Young and MISS ADKINS. We do not know 1st name, yet, or her relationship to John "Jackie" Adkins. We do know that a sis of Wm C Young, Edna Catherine Young md WrightRoberts/Roberds in Tupelo, JKAL, in 1833, at the home of one or both of their near kin, Elizabeth Hankins, mother of James M Hankins who md Nancy, dau of Claborn Evans. Also, a bro of Wm C & Edna C, Thos K Young md RosannaWood, dau of Hiram & Nancy (?last name Unk), whose eldest son, James Wood md Mary Potter, dau of Joel Potter & Mary "Polly" Bellamy. In 1835, Hiram & Nancy sold their land entry to Benjamin Riddle who md Elizabeth Proctor.I have oft wondered if Nancy was an Adkins or some kin to mother of Thos K.The father of Thos K, Wm C & Edna C, John Young was said to have been born in PA and to have served in Rev War.He may have moved with parents to SC/NC, and then with wife and small ch to Garrard Co, KY area, same time as some Proctors, Wood and other fams.By 1820, he was listed in Lincoln Co, TN, but he and/or his sibs may have lived in neighboring Franklin Co, TN.In 1850 FC of JKAL p84A 488 is Isaac Bynum & wf Tabitha (Young) (said to have been born in Franklin Co, TN). p84B 489 Jonathan Potter & wf Eliza (?last name Unk?) & Martha Wininger (of unk relationship). 490 James Hankins & wf Nancy (Evans). 491 Wright Roberds(Roberts) & wf Edna C (Young)(prob b in Lincoln Co, TN, where some of Roberts, Matlocks, Hiram Wood and other known realtives of Youngs lived before some members of those fams moved south from LNTN/FRTN into JKAL area.Would appreciate any help since Adkins were connected to Youngs & their relatives and to Bynum/Stephens/Riddle fams & their relatives. Was there poss any relationship between Tabitha (Young) Bynum & Edna C (Young) Roberts?Wright Roberts may have lived in household of Elizabeth Hankins in JKAL FC of 1830, as there were older males than her son James M Hankins who was b 1823 AL.Were these two men half-brothers?John "Jackie" Adkins had AJ Adkins in 1822/3 JKAL, and Hiram Wood had ch b in JKAL about that same time, but Wm C Young was b to John Young & MISS ADKINSin TN in 1822.Some of Young researchers have ?ed why Edna C was in Tupelo, JKAL to be md at age 18/19 in 1833, if her parents remained in Maury Co, TN where they were listed in the FCs of 1830/40.Enda's bro, Thos K served in Florida War from JKAL in 1835, along with John "Jackie" Adkins, and md Rosanna Wood in 1837/8, so it's quite poss that the Youngs traveled back and forth between AL & TN, as Thos K did for 1st few years after his marriage, but Thos K applied for & rec'd Bounty-Land Grants in both Maury Co, TN & Cedar Co, MO for his service in Florida War, while no Bounty-Land Grant applications could be found for his near kin, John "Jackie" Adkins, who was living practically next door to Thos K Young when he applied for & rec'd his. Please post follow-up if you have any missing bits and pieces of info on Youngs, Adkins & related families, more later, Richard.
