Stephens in the Alaska Gold Rush
My g-grandfather, Nathan Joshua Stephens, born in Canisteo, N.Y. in 1852, ventured to the Yukon during the Alaskan Gold Rush.He kept an extensive diary of his adventure, but unfortunately, the diary got wet during his travels and decomposed long before I had a chance to look at it.I have found records that show that he entered the Yukon from Lake Bennett to Dawson City on May 28, 1898, on a boat led by the legenday Mountie, Sam Steele. It was recorded that he traveled across Lake Bennett with a C.? Stephens also from New York.I am looking for any information that might exist on this adventure.I would appreciate informaion of this traveling companion.Perhaps someone else has a diary in better condition.
