Becky, You sent me some history about the Steinmans and Oligshlagers last year. Thank you very much. It inspired me to keep digging!!! Maybe I can return the favour... Here is a request from you on RootsWeb... "I am looking for info on Ben and Anna Steinman I know they were from Germany possibly they never came to USA their son Anton b 1847 settled in MO I would appreciate any help as I have hit a brick wall researching this family thanks Becky" Are you SURE that the man's name is BEN Steinman and not Phillip Steinmann ? If not then I think I have the whole family history figured out. I too was researching the Steinmans (same tree) and also ran into a wall. All that changed once I discovered that Marie Ohligshlager married a PHILLIP Steinman. Here is why I think this is correct. All this is based on Documents in Osage. I had found a researcher named Margaret H. Gentges. She has over 84,000 names in her database. The name Oligschlager will be misspelled as it was written at the time. I am putting together a GED file and will send you a copy if your interested. Let me know and thanks again for your help!! Robert F. Steinman steinmans@rcn.com 20 Heritage Valley Dr. Sewell N.J. 08080 856-589-0623 Anton was born between 1845 and 1847 (I think everyone agrees there). If you use this date range for Anton's birth the following census is correct. 1850 census Anton 6 he could have been 3-5 years old (based on 1845-1847 dates)(someone didn't know how to add) 1860 census Anton 14 could have been 13-15 years old 1870 census Anton 23 could have been 23-25 years old 1880 census Anton 33 could have been 33-35 years old Anton's Mother was Marie Oligshlager. Marie Ohligshlager's mother name was Anna Maria ( unknown last name). Marry Hammel's sister ( Catherine) married a Wolfe. (not Wulff). 1839 J. F. Picking the right source of information can be trickey, with so many people having similar names. Here is an example of how the wrong selection could have been made... 1995 letter from Viola Steinman Wolfe, list father as Anton Steinman,,",there were two, this one born in 1845,,,The other born in 1861, Mary Hammel born in 1857, married to this one." Well "this one" really refered to the FIRST ONE born in 1845. The second choice for dates wouldn't be possible !
