Hi Lynda, my name is Anne and I am so glad to find you here! I had just tried to send you an email re: Emily Thurow Steinke at your old aol email address and it, of course, came back! The point is, I think that your Emily Steinke and my Emily Thurow are the same person. Here is what I know, kinda in a nutshell:
I believe that Emily was the sister of my Great Grandfather August William Thurow, born May 22, 1879. I have Emily born around 1876. I have an obituary naming August as her brother along with sisters Martha, Adela and Elsie. Their parents were Friedrick Thurow and Albertine Raasch. As a family with 5 children they immigrated to USA in March of 1884 aboard the Nuernberg. The children were Emilie age 8, Bertha age 6, August age 4, Franz age 2 and Fritz age 9 months. Also with them when they immigrated was another Thurow family: August age 54, Albertine age 52, Anna age 19, Albert age 16 and Carl (Karl) age 12, as well as Wilhelm age 33, Wilhelmine age 23, Wilhelm age 70 and Fredericka age 62. They were alltogether on the ship's manifest and it's obvious were relatives, although I am unsure of exactly what the direct relationships were between the family groups. I am working on that! According to my info they came from the Pommern area and already had at least some extended family in Wisconsin. They were farmers.They ended up in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties.
It would be great if you could write me back and tell me if you agree that your Emily and my Emily were one and the same. Also, any family history you would share would be greatfully appreciated!
