It appears that our family comes from the area (VILLAGES) called DARGISLAFF, and HINTERPOMMERN, and TREPTOW AT THE REGA-RIVER all in the COUNTY OF, GREIFENBERG, which was in the STATE OF POMMERN (POMERANIA) or what we call Prussia. My GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER name Karl Steinke may have been his second name, as it appears that many family members went by their second names instead of there first names.
Karl's parents (don't know the names, dates or of he had any bothers or sisters. We are looking for these relatives.) We think owned a very large farm in the area mention above. It says they lived with HERR'S. (I don't know what this means?)
Karl Steinke married a girl with the last name of Kroening. At this time we have no first name_____________ and we don't know when or where the marriage took place. They had six children. Out of the six children there were two sets of twins. Karl and his wife were first cousins.
Their children
1) JOHANN KARL--- born 3-8-1840 died7-11-1876-----MARRIED--- HANNA GERTH. Daughter of Henry Gerth. It appears in the town or village mention above. (we have no date of this) JOHANN KARL, HANNA, and her father Henry Gerth all lived with Karl Steinke. (Johann Karl and Hanna were my GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS. Hanna was confirmed on April 1st 1860 in a church in Dargesloff. (Don't know the church).
2) Fred ---- (no information on him)
3) Caroline-married MR. HACKBARTH (have no information)
4) Minnie ---married Mr. KARL OTT(have no information)
5) Hannah -- married MR. LEMKE(have no information)
6) William -- no information on him. (When they came to USA, he stayed in Canada, and was never heard from again.)
In 1872 KARL STEINKE took his children and all of their children and HENRYS GERTH (father of Hanna Gerth Steinke) and all of his family to the USA.
They came to the USA via Canada. (No arrival date or depart date or where they left from in Germany or came to in Canada. No ships name either.) It took 3 weeks for the trip across the ocean. They landed in Canada first, and then to Milwaukee Wisconsin.-----William Steinke -- son of Karl stayed in Canada and was never heard from again. (we are looking for him)
Johann was a wagon maker and a Horse shoer and later became the Forman of the farm. (Or an overseer on the VON NESS ESTATE in the area mention above.) We don't know what the Von Ness estate is. At least two of Karl Steinkes, Grandchildren were born there and that Johann and his wife Hanna lived there along with other relatives at one time or another. (Don't know what the Von Ness Estate was)
There was an Emily Rathke that came along to America She is believed to be an Aunt.
Johann and Hanna Children were
1) August----born in Germany 6-12-1846 died in USA 5-29-1888 (don't know where) August married Agnes Bruss born 5-14-1872 to 4-21-1952 born in Germany died in US.
2) Friedrich Herman born in Germany 6-12-1872 to 9-21-1957 died in Milwaukee, WI. Buried at Valhalla cemetery with his wife Emily, and many other Steinkes. Many Steinkes are buried at Union, Cross, Valhalla, and Wisconsin Memorial Park all in Milwaukee, WI.
Herman married Emily Thurow on 12-17-1892. (Milwaukee WI)
(THESE ARE MY GREAT GRAND PARENTS.)
Emily was born in Germany in 1875. Not to sure where. She came to the America in 1880. She came with her mother and father. we have no information on her family. Johann and Hanna had one daughter her name was
3) Anna was born in Milwaukee 11-14-1874 died 5-5-1970
Anna married Christ Wolf on 9-30-1911 (Milwaukee.)
Christ Wolf born12-24-1869 died 4-23-1919
one son from this union Clarence born in Waukeyan Ill 1-11-1913 died 6-8-1952 ? if every married or had any children this information is missing.
August children: Eimer, Raymond, Ester Steinke

Herman is my grand father and ther are about 100 Steinkes from him and all of his 13 children. I have all that if anyone needed to know more.If we are related please email we my both need some other information thanks lynda Steinke Doberstein
