Georg,
It is good to read your message! You are the only one to ever respond to my posting!I am very happy to read that you agreed with my conclusions! My grandmother (geb. Steinhoff) is 82 years old.Her Steinhoff family has been in America since the 1700s.
I believe that we descend from a man named John Steinhoff who was a Loyalist (Loyal to England) during the American War for Independence.
This John Steinhoff was born about 1745 or 1746, lived in New Jersey (now U.S.A.), and later died in Ontario, Canada. Some researchrers claim that he was from Lüdingen, Overleden, The Netherlands, but this seems to be incorrect.
It is also claimed sometimes that he was a "Hessian" soldier who served in the "Brunswick Regiment" for the British. There was a soldier named John Steinhoff who is noted as being from "Lüdingen" in Brunswick, Germany--now Visselhovede, being abtout 20KM southeast of Rotenburg, east of Bremen, Neidersachsen--Lower Saxony, and was aged "30/08" or thirty-years eight-months about 1780.
I have corresponded with Jürgen-Gernot Steinhoff of Hamburg, Germany (e-mail addresss in 2002:
I hope you can translate this!
