Hello Everybody!

I write this today because I promised two wonderful women and fellow family researchers (whose e-mail-acquaintance I am proud to have made), to post some sort of "success story" regarding these photos. Since my last post on this subject of 10 JUL 2005, the e-mails were a'fly'n between CA, MN and TX - before, and as the "dog days" of August were upon us, and well before all that huricane stuff was even thought of - researchers make notes, an American diaspora is occurring as I type this.

Bonnie had contacted Nancy before I posted. The photos that were taken in Texas almost a century ago and somehow traveled to San Francisco (probably well packed, judging from their condition today) were now on their way back to Texas into the careful hands of a Tidd Family researcher.

A generous and thoughtful researcher as it turns out. Who is working on the entire Tidd line in America. Which is what I have been doing with the Steinhoff line for over 30 years, as my own personal surname heritage hit the so called "brick-wall" with my fathers father (seems only a small percentage of Steinhoff's actually record anywhere the same name that appears on their birth records - and my immeadiate ancestors just do not seem to know/care - if your reading this, you know what I mean) so, opposite all rules, I have been digging up Steinhoff's from as far back as I can find them and working foreward (broke down my brick-wall day after I got the photos - "All Saints Day!!! - more on that later in a different post).

Having gleened all the information available Bonnie wrote that she would send me the photo's, meanwhile Nancy did check back at the thrift shop and forwarded the prices on the tintypes, etc.

SIDENOTE: (not meant for the cookie-cutter/McGen family tree folk)is it just me, or is there something about: associated surnames, karma and re-incarnation, that becomes ever clearer the deeper one dig's into the past?

Anyways, per the postmark, Bonnie mailed the photos off to me in SEP. Now keep in mind that I live in a neighborhood of the first big hills west of downtown Minneapolis. Very tough route for the mail-carriers, hardly ever see the same one for more than a week or two and the neighbors up here are accustomed to exchanging each others mail that was mis- delivered. Until lately it seems, the address just before mine belonged to a conductor of a symphony orchestra who was on the road a lot. He had one of those doorway mail slots, and kept a box inside to catch the stuff he would look at when he got back into town. Seems he moved to another city at the end of SEP, while he was out of town he hired a company to handle the move locally while he was gone. He must have finally got a chance to go through that box of SEP mail, last week (on Holloween!!!...Hummm...) I got a cover envelope from London, England which contained the original packet of photos from Bonnie in Texas.

Despite all their age and travels, these images of those who have gone before us are in almost mint condition. I am currently archiving them digitally as well as by the more traditional methods.

Should anyone want or need copies, please contact me at my listed on this site e-mail.

SIDENOTE TO BONNIE: Have found another Tidd/Steinhoff marriage (late 1700/early 1800) up northeast U.S./Canada - mabey a Europe connection...

Just wanted to thank Nancy and Bonnie and let the rest of you know that sometimes, the forum works - especially when we all work with each other.

I'll keep you posted,
