Hi Regina,
Somehow I missed seeing your query before & don't recall receiving notification about it from Anyway, Oscar is NOT from our Steffey family, but is the s/o Martin according to page #82 in Marguerite (Steffey) Snyder's 1964 book, "The Steffeys In America - From Colonial Days To the Space Age." Marguerite & my husband are from the same Steffey branch of Benjamin Otto Steffey the 10th born of Peter Steffey/Catharine Tritle of Williamsport, Washington Co. Maryland. On this page it begins:
From 1930 Data Given by Bonnie Steffey*
and the 4th & last group says:
4. Martin's Children**
1. Ott
2. Stuart
3. Oscar (moved to Chattanooga, Tenn.; known to have had a son named Joseph)
4.Irvin (underlined)
5. Bertie
6. Risie

*Bonnie Steffey is the daughter of Thomas, granddaughter of Peter, great-granddaughter of David, great-great-granddaughter of John and (I believe) great-great-great-granddaughter of Ulrich.
(NOTE: the "I believe" are Marguerite's words)

**Col. William G. Steffey (Retired), in a letter dated Feb. 12, 1963, from his home in Tazewell, Va., identified his grandfather as Martin Steffey above, and has identified his father as Irvin.

On the previous two pages in Marguerite's book, it begins with:

ULRICH STEFFAN (Staffon) b-1710 Affolder Canton, Bern, Switzerland, came to Philadelphia, Sept. 18, 1727 with three other persons -- presumably members of his family -- on the ship William and Sarah.
Wife: Anna Maria (?) from Alsace
Children: (ii)
1. Elizabeth, b. 1738
2. Michael, b.1743
3. Johan, b. 1745 (THE SECOND GENERATION)
4. Heinrich, b. 1748
5. Anna MAria, b. 1750

The third generation is the Johan (John)above's 2nd listed son, David, b. 1816 & then the next page is the info on David's grandchildren. I haven't included it all here, but if anyone connects to this family, I can scan the 3 pages for you, as I have the author's permission. Marguerite's remaining books have been donated to the Washington Co. Historical Society in Maryland & are available for sale. She also donated all her research papers to them & they are available there for viewing. She is a fascinating lady in her 90's that we had the opportunity to meet in June 2001.
