Hi Susan. Sorry it has taken so long to reply. I was mistaken about Curry. He was the son of my husband's aunt's husband. Cowee was the name of my husband's mother's brother.
Gray Steele was born about 1904 Bartlett Ohio.
John William Steele was bor Mar 6, 1849 in Bournesville, Ross Co Ohio. He died Sept 30, 1903. He is buried at the Mound Cemetery in Washington Co, Ohio.
He married #1: Feb 11, 1869 Lucy W Holloway and had 3 sons named Thomas Horiato (born Nov 1869), Samuel Kirby (born Feb 15, 1872), and Rufus (Aug 13, 1876) all in Bartlett, Wesley Township, Washington Co, OH. He married #2: Maryetta Annette "Nettie" Posey. No children.
I am about 99% sure this is John William's parents:
Rev. John W Steele born abt 1814 VA. Alice born about 1820 NJ.
Although there may have been more children, according to the 1860 Kingston/Green Township Ross Co, Ohio Children of Rev. John and Alice:
Theodicia age 14
John W age 10
Cornell? age 7
Alice age 5
Rufus age 9 mos
At some time the Steele family came from Belfast Ireland, but my husband's aunt didn't know when.
