Greetings from the north of England.
I have been researching the Irish family of Ephraim Steele of Carlisle, Pennsylvaia, whose name first appears upon the tax list there in 1769.
He was born at The Tops, Raphoe, Co Donegal, Ireland.
He was a leading citizen of Carlisle. He seems likely to have been related to the Revd Captain John Steele [the "Fighting Parson"] to whose will he was executor. This Revd John Steele had earlier emigrated from the same district in Ireland.
There is a remarkable archive of papers of this family at the University of N Carolina at Chapel Hill - see:

#3876 EPHRAIM STEELE PAPERS
A nephew of Ephraim was John Steele of Rowan County, N.C., merchant; planter; banker; influential Federalist; U.S. Representative, 1790-1792; state and federal Indian commissioner; U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, 1796-1802; major general of the militia; and member of the North Carolina-South Carolina boundary commission.
I would be very grateful to hear whether you know of any connection of my Steeles of Carlisle, and of Raphoe Co Donegal, with your Steeles of Drumore township, Lancaster county ?
Best wishes, Simon Elliott
