Thomas,

Do you have the following ? James's grandfathers full name was Ebenezer Brown Steel, who was born around 1843 in Whitburn. In 1901 he was working as a Life Assurance Agent, and living at Drumcross Road, Bathgate. With him was his wife Elizabeth, aged 56, born in Fauldhouse, and an 8 year old grandson - James Steel, who was at school, and who was born in Bathgate.

In 1891 they had been living at 10 Marjoribank Street, Bathgate. Ebenezer was a Life Assurance Agent aged 48, and with him was wife Elizabeth and a son William aged 16 and an assistant Life Assurance Agent - born in Whitburn.

In 1881 they were at 34 South Bridge Street, Bathgate. Ebenezer was a Life Assurance Agent, aged 38, and with him was wife Elizabeth and sons Ebenezer (14), Alexander F (aged 12), James (aged 10) and William (aged 6). Ebenezer (the son) was a grocers apprentice, Alexander a message boy, and James and William were at school. All 4 sons had been born in Whitburn.
