I am a great-grandson of an Ebeneezer Steel, who's father was also Ebaneezer, or Eban. He was from Bathgate, had at least two sons, James and Alexander, possibly another son as well. James Steel came to America in early 1890's with the Clark Thread Co. He married Sarah Wilson in Paisley; they had five children: Wilson, Elizabeth, Flora, Agnes and Margaret (my mother.)Ebeneezer Steel was originally a weaver, but in his obit.,it says that he "left the loom" to become one of the first insurance agents for the Prudential Insurance Co.in Scotland. We have photos and other anecdotal information.
