Mary Steed Harris Died 8/31/2006, in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas Obituary: Mary Steed Harris, age 87, of Warren, Arkansas died Thursday, August 31, at Bradley County Medical Center. She was born August 3, 1919 in Montgomery Alabama a daughter of the late George Ashmore Steed and Salina Ruth Rambo Steed. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women’s Club where she received a life membership pin. During her children’s school years she was an active member of the Warren Parents Teachers Association and was presented with a life membership pin. She was chairman of the Bradley County American Cancer Society drive for 10 years and served 5 years on the American Cancer Society Board of Directors for the State of Arkansas. She was a member of the Children of the Confederacy. Her grandfather, Theodore Adonorum Steed served in the Civil War, Company A, Alabama Division. Surviving is her husband, W. Sykes Harris, whom she married on May 2, 1943 in Montgomery, Alabama; a daughter, Sally Barnett and spouse A. Daniel, Casscoe, Ark; 5 grandchildren Beth Burch and spouse Mike, Nashville, Tenn., Laura Weatherford and spouse Jay, Stuttgart, Ark, Daniel Barnett, Jr. and spouse Nikki, Benton, Ark, Sykes Harris, III, Nashville, Tenn. and David Barnett and spouse Crystal, Casscoe, Ark; 7 great grandchildren Jeremy Burch, Nashville, Tenn., Matthew Mitchell, Logan Mitchell and Jake Weatherford all of Stuttgart, Ark, Andrew Barnett and Ashlyn Barnett, Benton, Ark and Avery Barnett, Casscoe, Ark She was also preceded in death by a son, W. Sykes Harris, Jr. and a sister, Lillian Steed Dismukes. Memorial services 4:00 pm Sunday, September 3, at First United Methodist Church. Visitation 6:00pm to 8:00pm Saturday, September 2, at Frazer’s. Memorials preferred to Donald W. Reynolds YMCA, 207 North Main Street, Warren, Arkansas, First United Methodist Church, 111 West Church Street, Warren, Arkansas or the Bradley Veterans Museum, 210 North Main Street, Warren, Arkansas 71671.
