Ah, the elusive Allen Stedman! I've been trying to figure out who his ancestors are for years. I'm not related but have done extensive research on the Stedman's particularly in New York and Michigan.

The only other Stedman families in Chautauqua County during the early-mid 1800's are Levi's and Isaac's, both Rev. War veterans. All of their children are well documented although I do think that Isaac had another son named Benjamin who is not documented. There are no Stedman's in Catt. County until 1870 when Allen & family appear there in the census. Between 1840 and 1860 Allen is in Poland, Chautauqua Co. I've never been able to find a naming pattern that would provide clues to his ancestors either.

The marriage in Catt. County is interesting though.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Bev
