I've just started on the Steadman branch of my family tree and after browsing this message board and not finding anything specific on my ancestors, thought I'd put out a message. I'm looking for information on Ira Allen Steadman. He was from Canada, Ontario, I think. He married Mary Ann Fogerty, who was from Ireland, born in 1834. Their daughter, Mary Iris, married Phelix Andrew Cantwell. They lived in Newton County, Missouri and are on the 1900 census. They had twelve children and their son, Andrew Perry Cantwell was my Grand-father. Ira and Mary had other children: John, Alonzo, Martha and Lucy. My mother, Mary Irene Cantwell Thompson, says John became a doctor in Missouri, Alonzo left to seek his fortune and said he wouldn't come back "until his beard was as long as fathers." He was never heard from again until some members of the family were contacted about an Alonzo Steadman in California who passed away with a considerable sum of money. This may or may not have been our Alonzo. Martha married a man with the last name of Ethridge. Lucy became a nurse and apparently never married. She said she wanted to travel around the world. Grandpa used to tell me about going to his grandfather's house in Neosho, Missouri for Christmas. They used to ride in a sleigh and go over drifts that covered the fence posts, to get there!
